A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
1.Nana ca by Niki de Saint Phalle, French 1930-2002, mixed media because it was of a larger woman, an imperfect body, because I believe there is no such thing as a perfect body. It also represented peace and love. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/004.jpg
2. Untitled by Fred Sandback, American 1943-2003, red acrylic yarn because it had a "less is more" effect and I believe that is a good motto to live by in most cases. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/009.jpg
3. Sailor with Guitar by Jacques Lipchitz, French 1891-1973, Bronze because it reminded me of a character from a short film in a pixar movie. It brought me back to my childhood and reminded me of the innocence of a child. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/012.jpg
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
1. Untitled, Nancy Rubins, steel. This was a sculpture right out side of the gallery with the row boats. C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
Tanktotem IV by David Smith, 1953, steel I would like to know more about what it reprentsents is it suppose to be a person? http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/003.jpg
2.Jackob/ Big Psycho by Erwin Wurm, aluminum and paint this scuplture confuses me but it also makes me think I would like to know what the artists thoughts were in creating this and what he intended his audience to think. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/005.jpg
3.Working drawing/ maquette for look and see by jim Hodges, reflective mylar and paper, it didnt say what the outside sculpture was made of but what I would like to know is if the tree was intended to be incorporated in the piece because I think it makes it much more enjoable to look at. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc366/mcgowalm01/027.jpg

logo design
1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.
Creating my logo wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I had a couple of ideas in my mind of what I would want to incorporate in my logo but the trouble was combining them.
2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.
At first I thought of what defined me, my eyes are a trait that everyone notices about me. I also thought about activities I am involved in such as tennis lacrosse and my major forensic chemistry. I ended up with going more towards the eyes. I drew an eye nose and mouth having the eye the center of attention. The colors I used are the colors of my eyes. I also used the eye as an illustration of having knowledgeable insight of the world is important for my line of work and just life in general. I have to observe and notice the things around me in order to solve crime.
3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo?
The most important discovery is that I made is that just one logo cant represent me to the fullest. Although it represents a part of there are many different things I could have done to represent myself.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
I learned that it is easy to make a design but the hardest part is finding the perfect design for what you want to represent. I also learned that graphical symbol is suppose to be unambiguous and simple.

Art Material Exploration #1: Exploring Value and The Subtractive Color Theory
1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.
Creating the value scale was easy but I had some problems blending the colors for the color wheel.
2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?
I enjoyed creating the color wheel because it was more experimental.
3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?
The most important important discovery was that blending colors together doesn't always give you the color you want the first time you blend them.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
The most important information I learned was that red blue and yellow aren't the primary colors, that yellow magenta and cyan are instead. I thought the videos were kind of dull.

Color Theory and Emotional Effects
1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.
The properties of color are hue, intensity, value, HVI, and schemes. There are two color systems which are additive color and subtractive color. Additive color deals with mixing light and subtractive color uses dyes and pigments. Color evokes emotional responses, colors can be symbolic or sets different moods. For example in the western culture the color blue is associated with boys and pink with girls. Red can symbolize anger or love and yellow can symbolize cowardice and ill health.
2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?
The fact that we don’t see things but we see light, objects don’t have an appearance without light. The objects absorb or reflect light for certain colors to appear. This intrigues me because it is science.
3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?
The white black round reflects light to make to colors brighter. Color keeps paintings alive and evokes certain moods.
4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?
Art shows what civilizations yearn for. Feelings are our path forward. Reason through color and shapes releases feeling.

video blog
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video a key concept I learned is that aesthetics has no boundaries. Through out history art changes and the the definition of art and aesthetics changes with many different conceptions of what is beautiful. In the second video a key concept is that science and art relate to each other. Art is here to produce pleasing effects in the human brain.
2. Which philosopher's theroy on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosphers name, era (time in history), and contribtion to the aesthetic theory in your response.
3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture?
I think they are different but essential ways to view aesthetics and art.
Changeux- access to Global Neuronal Workspace- a discrete mental synthesis of multiple parallel and distributed processes from external perception and internal memories such as stored emotions. and consensus partium: the universal search for harmony
Ramachandran- The eight universal laws of aesthetics: grouping or binding, peak shift principal, contrast, isolating a single cue to optimally excite cortical visual areas, perception problem solving, symmetry, abhorrence of unique vantage points and suspicious coincidences, art as a metaphor
4. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos and the text both seek to define aesthetics and art.
5. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading?
I thought the films were interesting. They added depth to my understanding of the readings because I know have knowledge of many different views of aesthetics. The videos made me have an open mind while I was reading the text.
I feel that Immanuel Kant an 18th Century philosophers theory of aesthetics is the most important. He claimed that aesthetics is right in the middle of sensitivity and reason and that it is brought together by means of the imagination. Ugly can be beautiful the judgment is based on a subjective feeling that is innate and can be shared by others but doesnt have an exact science. You cant describe beautiful, the judgment of beautiful is pure form experienced in selfless contemplation is what causes the satisfaction. Kant states "Through the genius nature set rules to art." He also influenced Fredrich von Schiller another 18th Century philosopher.

Post 1
Creating an email for Gmail and setting up a blog was easy. I expect to gain more knowledge on how to interpret different art forms. I have never taken an online course and it does seem overwhelming and sometimes confusing because I am not that great with computers.
