I selected Hockney on Photography because I myself like photography the best and I chose Andy Warhol: Image of an Image because I was familiar with the name Andy Warhol but I forgot what works he was known for.

2.    For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The key concept of Hockney on Photography is that photography is only the chemically invention of how to put the image on the on a flat surface and that the camera is older than photography. The key concept of Andy Warhol:  Images of an Image is the immense power images have acquired in our society.

3.    How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Hockney on Photography relates to the text in that they explain how photography resembles painting. Andy Warhol: Images of an Image relates to the text explain how he was a gifted commercial artist.

4.    What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Hockney on Photography adds depth to my understanding of photography and how photographic images create masterpieces.  Andy Warhol: Images of an Image added depth to my understanding of repeated images as works of art.

I selected Dance at the Moulin de la Galette because it is a romanticized vision and A Sunday on la Grande Jatte, 1884 because I remember reading about it in the text and was interested in learning more about it.

2.    For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The key concept of Dance at the Moulin de la Galette is that the painting is one of the most interesting and enjoyable works of art, it stands for Paris and pleasure.  It is almost like you are there walking down the stairs looking at the dance floor the painting transports the viewer to the scene and brings Paris to the viewer. The key concept of A Sunday on la Grande Jatte is that Seurats work is mysterious and how there is debate on how to read his works.

3.    How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Dance at the Moulin de la Galette relates to the text because they both explain Renoir’s painting Le Moulin de la Galette and how it depicts a moments pleasure with flickering stokes of paint that record sensations of light color and movement. A Sunday on la Grande Jatte relates to the text in that they explain the dots are distinct at a closer view.

4.    What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Dance at the Moulin de la Galette adds depth to my understanding of idealized lifestyle art work. A Sunday on la Grande Jatte adds depth to my understanding on the technique called pointillism.

I selected these mask because I like how it is made out of gold and has big eyes and a big nose. These masks illustrate the element line with the eye brows it moves the viewers eyes along the mask. The masks illustrate shape, light reflects off the mask because of its gold color. The nose and eyes of the mask is emphasized with how large it is compared to the rest of the mask

I chose this mask because I really like the look of stained glass.  Line is illustrated in this mask the lines separate the different colors of the stained glass the different shapes of the mask make out the face of a joker. My mask illustrates line with the separation of the cool colors. It also illustrates a pattern since the wings are the same on both sides and a symmetrical balance. i enjoyed creating my mask I really like how the wings turned out to resemblance stained glass. I'm not really crazy about the glitter but I couldn't change that after I applied it.

 I chose this mask simply because I like butterflies.  This mask also illustrates line, the lines help the viewer move across the wings there is also a pattern to the wings and they have a symmetrical balance.

I chose Buddhism and Hinduism because I thought it would be interesting to learn how the religions relate to art. I chose Islamic Art: Africa and Central Asia and African Art because I like how most African art work are done in vibrant colors.
For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Islamic Art: Africa and Central Asia key concept I learned was that Islamic art can cause  stendhal syndrome with how immensely  beautiful the art work is. The key concept of African art was that African art is part of daily life and is important for rituals and religions. The key concept of Buddhism is that Buddhism proclaims a basic message of love.  The key concept of Hinduism is that it is exotic and mysterious to the western eye and how they don’t grasp the fact of more than one god, the video continues to provide insight into life at the heart of Hinduism.
How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Islamic Art: Africa and Central Asia relates to the text because they both explain Islamic architecture and how it relates to religion. African art relates to the text because they both explain how African art represents different values and are used in everyday life. Buddhism relates to the text because they both explain the birth of Buddhism and its concepts such as extinguishing desire by cultivating nonattachment. Hinduism relates to the text because they both explain the development and concept of Hinduism.

 What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
 Islamic Art: Africa and Central Asia adds depth to my understanding of Islamic architecture and how different religions and cultures use the same aspects such as domes. African art adds depth to my understanding of the Africa’s ethic evolution. Buddhism adds depth to my understanding of how Buddhism came about and the concepts behind it. Hinduism adds depth to my understanding of Hindu values and concepts about how they worship more than one god.

Art Criticism: Describing, Analyzing, and Interpreting Artwork

Description –In this painting there is a stage with a woman on it looking at another secluded woman in the audience with a group of people on the other side.

Formal analysis – Light is used to focus in on the woman on stage. Color is used to emphasis the importance of the woman on the stage the rest of the picture is illustrated in dark colors and the color red that is used for the flower is an outlining color. The line of wood work allows the viewer to go from the woman on stage to the audience.

 Bracketing - When I look at this piece of art it reminds me of how nerve wrecking it is to be on stage. The woman who is on stage has a nervous facial expression.

 Interpretation - I think the artist iss trying to say that it is not that easy being the spot light of attention.

Description –This piece of art has there squares the one on the bottom is white that is in the position of a diamond and the middle one is blue that is layered like a normal square and the top one is multi colors of red yellow white that is the powerbook and is layered in the diamond position. There is always movement of the details that are in the top square.

Formal analysis – Line is as symbols in this piece it also has implied shapes such as the squares. The frames force the viewer to look across the pieces. The light of the software emphasizes certain things at different times. He uses primary colors, red yellow and blue to draw attention to the top square. When certain images are played he uses space to create a 3 or 4 dimensional feel.

 Bracketing –  The new images of everyday shapes that pop of reminds me that there is always something new in life to appreciate there is an endless number of choices one can make even if they are the simplest.

Interpretation – I think the artist is trying to say is that things never ending he illustrates this with the constant movement in piece.

Description –This picture shows two legs and a dog on a leash in movement.

Formal analysis – The line of the frame moves the viewer eyes across the picture the line of the leash also moves the attention up towards the legs. The light background gives the dog and the human who are illustrated in dark colors more emphasis. The way the artist illustrates the different angles and positions of the dog and the human illustrates movement.

Bracketing – The image reminds me of when I walk my dog. The picture can possibly symbolize how it is important to give things to your animals such as walking them because in their own way they give you much joy.

Interpretation – The artist may be trying to depict how the human and the dog moves showing possible alternative positions and how people are always in a rush.

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?

It was easier than something else because it is something I see everyday and I can move it to the positions I want to draw.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?

I used pencil because I like drawing with pencil better.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?

It was hard I ended up going back and erasing a lot my non dominant hand was shaky

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?

My first drawing with my dominant hand is a lot better than my non dominant hand but my non-dominant hand isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think they are pretty successful for being a non art major and for someone who never draws.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?

I would if I got more practice at it.

I chose the videos that interest me the most. I chose The Drawings of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance because I like Michelangelo and Leonardo's works. I chose La Primavera (Botticelli)  because I like his piece The Birth of Venus. I chose Velázquez because I was not familiar with his work. 2. The Drawings of Michelangelo the key concept I learned was that his works of art could illustrate how he thought and worked.
Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance the key concept i learned was first you have to have to become a master of perspective and then acquire complete knowledge of proportion of humans and other animals
La Primavera (Botticelli) the key concept I learned is that it is difficult to recreate a work and another thing to understand what it means everyone thinks something different
Velázquez the key concept i learned was that Velazquez captures the moments in his works.

The Drawings of Michelangelo relates to the text because Michelangelo lived and worked through the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance relates to the text by explaining that Leonardo is the "Renaissance Man" and they both illustrate his work.
La Primavera (Botticelli) relates to the text by  explaining that Botticellis work displays the rarefied and learned side of Renaissance art. Velázquez relates to the text because they both illustrate his masterpiece the Las Meninas.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
The films were interesting The Drawings of Michelangelo added depth to my understanding by illustrating how hard and almost impossible it was to redraw Michelangelo's drawings. Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance added depth by explaining the greater your knowledge the more your work will be recognized and admired. La Primavera (Botticelli) added depth to my understanding of viewing art and how others may think of the same piece in a totally different way. Velázquez added depth to my understanding of Velazquez himself because I was familiar with him or his works.

I agree that it is easier to pick up on things when you are consciously looking for them some of my favorite images in your slideshow were emphasis with the bowl of cereal and the strawberry being emphasized and the plant as the element of line, I also felt that the light in the image made the picture more interesting.

                I think this project was interesting because as I was looking through the images that you chose I couldnt really remember them, at first I thought that you went to a different art gallery. Its interesting how different images leave lasting impressions on people. 2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?

When looking at both of my peers project 1 I agreed with their choices of images that match the elements and principles. Like I said in the comment the image of the plant illustrates line but there is a light in the picture that makes the plant stand out it also has a balance and repetition to it.

3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?

The first person I had looked at we both chose the images “The Marvelous Sauce” as a connection to our Italian family and cooking with them. The second one I looked at we didn’t have any of the same images.

4. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?

There was one image in the second persons project that interested me it was the image of the bubble it took me back to the art gallery in the hall way with numerous images of the bubbles. It was very intriguing.

5. What do you think about  the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?

While reading the reflection of Project 2 I notice how she chose something small in the picture that wasn’t the main focus and related to something in your life. Sometimes I look at things too quickly and just notice the emphasized things instead of looking at everything.

6. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?

The comment on my project 2 was interesting because we had picked a number of the same art works but interpreted them differently.

I chose the videos with the most interesting titles. The Birth of the Middle Ages because information about the middle ages interests me and learning about art and the middle ages would further my understandings of the subject. Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany because it is in Italy and Beyond the Classical Byzantine and Later Greek Art because I one day would like to visit Greece and I learned about Byzantine with the other assignment and thought I could learn more about it.

More Human Than Human- The key concept in this video is that images dominate our lives, they mold and define us because when ancient ancestors created works that helped define their way of line and helped them to make sense of their world which produced a visual legacy that helps us make sense of our own world. Also that the human form is the most popular unrealistic images. The Birth of the Middle Ages- the key concept in this video is that there are places in the world where the middle ages are still alive and is a living reality. Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany- the key concept of this video is 800 yrs after the collapse of the roman empire came the dawn of the resonance the rebirth, the first light cataclysm.  Beyond the Classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art- the key concept of this video is the treasures of Greece, the Byzantine period

More Human than human related to the text by illustrating how different cultures use the human body as art work. The Birth of the Middle Ages relates to the text  Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany relates to the text because they both explain Florence’s and Siena’s cathedrals. Beyond the Classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art relates to the text because they both explain the Byzantine period and the icons.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the videos were interesting I like how the first video related how important images are back to the ancient ancestors and how the unrealistic human form started about 25000 years ago. The Birth of the Middle Ages added depth to my understanding of the middle ages and how in some parts of the world it is still alive. The Black Death Visits Tuscany and Beyond the Classical Byzantine and Later Greek Art gave me more understanding of the Italian and Greek cultures and art.

Installation art is created to enter, explore and experience it.

I found fireflies on the water by Yayoi Kusama the most interesting installation because as you enter you enter your own imagination as well.

 I feel a connection to the installation fireflies on the water because as a child I would go down by the river and try to catch fireflies.

 I would like to explore the natural world with my installation.

The materials I will use are flowers, pots, tables and chairs.

This installation will be located out because that is the largest space I have available to work with.

My installation has a number of different flowers in pots on tables and chairs.

My installation uses the elements color because of the different colored flowers, line with the railings of the deck, and space because the installation takes up the space on the deck.

6. What are your thoughts on the planning and creation of a site specific installation?

The first thing I thought of was where to create my installation I chose to do it outdoors because of the large space and I also wanted a natural theme to it. Next I thought of what materials to use

Architecture

For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Architecture the science of design-  there are many concepts that need to be taken when building such as the base, weather, the shape, which direction pollution will flow
Last call for planet earth-  the key concept is that earth is in danger by the climate change and global warming but we can do a lot to help the problem such as green architecture
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Architecture the science of design relates to the text by describing the most used material concrete. Last call for planet earth relates to the text by mentioning green architecture and how to fight global warming by building with certain materials.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
You can tell the film architecture the science of design is not a present made video but it added depth to architecture by explaining the base of the building such as the concrete underneath the skyscrapers and how they have to collect data of how the building will react with weather such as wind. Last call for planet earth adds depth to my understanding of green architecture and how there are several shades of green meaning that there is much more to do to make the earth more green.
4. From the group of four that you had a choice: Why did you choose that film?

I chose to watch Architecture: the science of design because I am very interested in anything that has to do with science and Last call for planet earth sustainable development and architecture because it had the most interesting title.

Sculpture, Ceramics, Installation

1.    For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Through the eyes of the sculptor- I learned that it is important for an artist to know who they are and in order to do so it helps if you move away from your home land and that most sculptors don’t create the whole sculptor they do parts of it.

Glass and ceramics- The key concept is that glass and ceramics are everywhere and are made from sand and clay which can be easily manipulated into the shape desired.

Installation art- art that takes over the space, that defines the space, some kind of sculpture around something that’s all around you it is 3-D pieces of art work.

2.    How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Through the eyes of the sculptor relates to the text about carving and how it is a more aggressive modeling. Glass and ceramics relates to the text by identifying glass as a versatile material, it can be shaped at will.  Installation art relates to the text because they both describe how art is taken to the outside world.

3.    What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

The films were quite interesting I have a new respect for sculptures and their carvers. I liked how the film Glass and ceramics describes what glass and ceramics are made from and the creation process. The film adds depth to idea that stain glass windows are a fine art and the cups and vases such as fine china are crafts.  I learned that installations can be invisible such as piece of music and that the artist try to draw the viewer into the piece of installation.
